Capital One's hold music, as it gets towards the end of the loop it's playing, devolves and dissolves into static patterns that are modulated by the music. . . when the music is playing it is less noticeable, but when there is a lull in the song, it blasts out in distortion and static. . .

god damn, it's doing crazy thing to this generic hole sounding female vocal track now as well.

Actually, I've been playing with creating sample loops using a filter in Logic that does pretty much exactly what you just described. There are some settings that so completely obliterate the original sound that it could just be a random noise generator. Though I think it's better when you can sort of kind of recognize a little tiny fragment of the original sound before it devolves into feedback and static noise. That and overtones are fucking cool.
