I realize that there are sound reasons for this idea. . . but this is kinda scary and seem's at least to me to be continuation of that I'll fated trip across a silppery slope of curtailing reproductive rights. . .

"Reproductive rights" (as we know the term now) absolutely need curtailed-- in the other direction.

Abortions on demand, for anyone, at any time-- and some sort of punishment for those who breed above replacement rate.

Then, things might start on the long, long road to improvement...

I'm a big fan of the idea of licencing reproduction. Get your take a test, get your parenting licence, etc. I REALLY like the idea, of being able to sell your child voucher to people who want a big familly. :0)

good idea but it depends on who would be handing out the licence. More than likely it would be someone along the same lines and the people we're talking about. Do you think I would ever get a licence to breed? would your daughter even exsist? Limiting the number of children a couple can have is fine.

**shrugs** I would expect the same type of anti-discrimination laws that apply to any other type of licencing. I.E. You have to show a basic proficiency and skillset, and discrimination based on anything other than the ability to master that skillset, makes it not illegal, but something you say, have to pay a large fine if you want to circumvent. . . I'll admit it's a very slippery slope, I mean, do we dose kids (male and femaile) with some type of birth controll/temporary sterilizaion drug until they get their licence, do we send in the troops to enforce compliance in the heart of the baby belt. . . do we start performing forced abortions of people who can't pay the fine and refuse to curtail their breeding. . .

Yes. I totally agree. Completely leading into The Handmaids Tale territory.

yeah, all we need now is nuclear war to sterilize some folks, and we've got ourselves some fun!

I dunno, I've been sterilized (yay vasectomy) since I was 25. perhaps that decision colors my thoughts on the whole topic.

But I agree, jackbooted thugs marching through the backwoods looking for firtile females. That's hotter than nun pr0n.

;p

So much of what is going on in this country recently reeks of the precursors to the rise of the Nazi party.

Not that I'm against healthy children, mind you.

Heh. Nice quote.
I think it is funny that today some governmental research agency posted a study basically saying all the same stuff about all these vitamins that a "healthy society" needs.

Yeah. Corporatism.

I was talking about this with another friend a couple days ago. If we follow the same logic all men should have to take parenting classes because they may be a father some day wheather they plan or want to be a father or not it's better to be prepared right?

I personally agree with a replacement rate policy. 2 kids, no more.
I just wish there were some way to stop men from making more than two of their own offspring. Like a sperm tagging system or something.
