So I'm driving to work today, and my laptop is in it's case on the seat next to me, along with my lunch.

I'm forced to slam on the brakes and the bag and goes tumbling against the firewall.

and now apparently the screen is working again, at least for this boot, I may have to take the whole thing apart and see if I can tract the short or find where it's grounding out. . .

Ok, so the USB Ports on the motherboard are now working, windows xp and all the drivers have installed, am now going through and manually applying an assload of updates. . .

This has been the year of computer issues. . . every single one of my computer's has had major issues this year, I just got done with getting the websurfing and torrent box rebuilt and set up, my laptop's LCD and inverter have been replaced and she's up and running again. . .

Now my gaming rig has decided to take a dump, it started about two or three weeks or so and it really exacerbated when I added the G15 Keyboard. The registry started corrupting and restoring itself on each reboot, and a couple of times I had to go in and do a system restore to restore the functionality of the keyboard and make it work correctly. Then it wouldnt fully boot into windows, and the system restore stopped working, so I decided to flatline the box and re-install, during the attempted re-install, the USB Ports on the motherboard all died, no LCD, no Mouse, no nothing. It looks like the motherboard has died, luckily, it's still under warranty, I've sent an RMA request (edit: RMA has been approved) and will figure out how I'm going to box that bad boy up and get it shipped off, they estimate 10 days before they'll have the replacement motherboard out to me, whereupon I'll get to spend 6-8 hours doing a re-install. Whee, oh well, I guess this means more time for non-gaming projects that I've been meaning to get completed. . .

Computer stuff again. . .

I love how if you take a computer, plug all the peices in and hook everything up it doesnt work. . .

so you take it all out again, and put it back together the exact same way, peice by peice and test boot it each time to see which peice of the hardware is causing the lock up, and then you finally put the last peice in and everything works like a charm. . .

gotta love it. . .

The Frys GQ (Great Quality) box my dad bought last year is now running my main web surfing and downloading computer. Semperon 2800+ now running at 1800mhz with 2GB of ram. Onboard video and every single PCI Port full, with SCSI Card, SATA Card and Wireless Network card. The Lack of a firewire port is irritating but there are 4 USB2.0 ports so I will survive for now.

Dre may have a Firewire card he will part with for cheap, I'll have to call him and see if he wants to get rid of it still.

Got the OS installed, and tonight I get to apply a metric fuck ton of microsoft updates, put AVG virus scan on it, and configure everything, I figure I have another 4-6 hours worth of software installation and configuration to do. I'll be so glad when this is done, hopefully it will be at least another 6-8 months before I have to do anything like this again.

Well I've pretty much got the issue tracked down to something with the motherboard a processor, restoring my ghosted image did not resolve the issue, it was not as bad in safe mode as it was in normal mode, but it started doing the hang thing right away. The Kubuntu Live CD came up fine with no problems. I picked up a PCI SATA Card and am going to move the guts of the machine into the other case, hopefully tomorrow after work. Then I'll get to re-install windows. . . yay, on the up side, I get to add the SCSI Card back in, and hopefully be able to use the ESI-32 Sampler more. . . just need a SCSI-1 to SCSI-2 connetor to daisy chain the Sampler and SCSI CD Rom to the machine. . .

My home work (as opposed to the Game) boxen has started to seriously fuck up. It's been locking up has required two hard restarts. I also noticed that when it came up the c: drive (a newer - maybe 1 year old SATA 160GB Drive) has started collect bad sectors.

Looks like I get to transplant the 160GB IDE Drive from the unused External HD into the machine, and RMA the drive. At least I'll get to add a drive to my gaming box for swap space. Not that it really needs it, running a 10K SATA Drive as it is.

The annoying part will be the roughly 8-12 hours this re-install will take. On the flip side, this windows install is almost a year old and is BADLY in need of a refresh.

So my relatively new (within last 2 months) 300GB Seagate Barracuda is acting up.

Power up the external metal gear box enclosure and the most of the time access light just flashes regularly, and the drive does not spin up. If I physically hold the drive in my hand and snap it about 90 degrees tot he right, I can hear the platters unstick, and it will then generally spin up. The drive has never been dropped or expossed to excessive heat. So off to RMA Land I go . . .

hance the next problem.

I *Finally* managed to get through the Seagate.com registration page it was a tad slow but I didnt think much of it. I had registered the drive with them the day I bought it so I thought they might have it. No Dice. I get the e-mail confirmation I've created the acct, but when I log on nothing, nothing for over 5 mintutes, then I get:

Gateway Timeout
The proxy server did not receive a timely response from the upstream server.
Reference #1.9cb3451.1128373445.1c9e183

I call seagate and ask what's going on, they have no clue, do some testing and lo and behold their system is down, and I'm the first to report it.

They tell me to try back later.
